The Richard Clarke Golf School at Portumna Golf Club caters for all levels and abilities. Whether you are a beginner keen to learn the game, or a more experienced player determined to lower your scores, Richard and his team will tailor a lesson programme to suit your needs.
The Quintic System Using the Quintic video analysis system, Richard can analyse your swing and can compare it to that of a professional golfer via a computer screen.
You can study your own technique in depth, building a picture of what you're trying to achieve. Normally, as a player, it's difficult to correct a fault, even if you know what you should be doing. This is because you don't see yourself in action. When the video or computer images are there in front of you, it's much easier to set yourself back on the right lines.
Richard will work with you in pointing out where you are going wrong, and what you can do to improve your swing. The Quintic system allows him to keep a record of each lesson, which he uses as an historical reference is his teaching methods. You will be able to view your progress over a period of classes, and learn from your mistakes.
Richard will also provide, on request, a cd containing images of your performance through the lesson(s), which you can take with you. This will allow you to remind yourself of what you learned through each lesson with Richard, and to ensure you don't slip back into any old habits!
Lesson Types Richard will advise you on the appropriate format of your classes, based on your knowledge and experience of the game. Classes can be booked on the following basis:
- Individual Lessons
- Group Lessons
- Ladies Group Lessons
Typical programmes based on experience would be:
- Beginner ~ learn basic rules and etiquette along with the fundamentals of developing your swing and manoeuvring the ball. You will quickly become a competent player, comfortable on the course and with the flow of play.
- Intermediate ~ improve your swing and fix errors in your stance, swing, and play. You will also learn how to analyse your strengths and weaknesses, so you can continue to build a better game when you're out there on your own.
- Advanced ~ learn how to manage a course, perfect your swing, and adjust to the nuances of the game, course, and conditions. You will also learn how to think strategically and shave points off your score.

Course Management Richard will also teach you the correct way to approach each round and the general strategy that you should use when playing competitively. A good swing will not suffice if your aim is to win competitions. When and where to take risks is the key to lowering your score, and the psychological aspect to the game is just as important as maintaining a good swing.
Fitness Programmes There are 32 major muscle groups involved in the golf swing, therefore a proper training routine is imperative in order to perform at the same level through 18 holes of golf. Richard will consult with you and will define a fitness programme to suit your needs as a golfer. He will advise on stretching routines, and ways to improve stamina to help you through each round.
